Develop Discipline and Save

Term Life Insurance and DisciplineIt takes a lot of discipline to conquer your most challenging fitness, weight loss or health goals. And discipline takes a lot of practice. Below are several ways to focus on your self-discipline and accomplish your goals.

Determine your goal

The key to having discipline is to have your goals set. If you are going to succeed, you must be specific. Once you know what it is you want to accomplish, you can better set out to do it. Make your goal quantitative. Write it down and write by when you would like to have your goal accomplished. For example your goal could be: I will lose 20 pounds of body fat by December 1. This is a goal that you can work toward and by which you can measure your success.

Know Why

Often the missing piece in both goal-setting and discipline is knowing why you would like to accomplish a certain goal. You have to ask, “Why is this goal important to me?”  A few examples could be: I want more energy, I want to lower my cholesterol, I want to look fit or I want to save money on my term life insurance premium. No matter the reason why, it is important to have it in your head. Your reasoning will help function as motivation later on.

Identify Obstacles

It is important to anticipate any obstacles that may get in your way of your goals. This way you can preemptively build strategies to overcome them.  An example could be the following: I mindlessly overeat at the office. An example for a strategy to over come this obstacle would go as follows: I will plan out my lunch a week ahead of time and prepack them. This way I cannot blame time crunch on poor food choices.

Develop New Behaviors

If you want to accomplish your goals you should focus on developing new behaviors. If you always do what you’ve always done, how can you expect to make any real changes? Consider what positive, new behaviors you want to develop to replace the old ones. Some examples could include Drinking two liters of water each day to stay hydrated, eating healthy snacks like raw almonds, celery, carrots rather than vending machine food, sharing entrees when you eat out to eat half the normal serving and choosing grilled fish or veggies over beef. Once you make this list, stick to it.

Stay Focused

Read your goals daily, review your reasons why, anticipate obstacles and work on your new behaviors. If you get off-track, don’t beat yourself up. Simply shake it off and refocus. It takes time and patience.

Discipline is not really about will-power so much as it is about focus. Follow the above advice and you will be that much closer to accomplishing your fitness goals. The more you develop your self-discipline, the closer you will be to saving money on your term life insurance premium.
